Symposium 2026: Humanised Technology for Caregivers

On 16 May 2026, Silver Caregivers Co-operative Ltd (SCCL) held its Fourth Symposium, “Humanised Technology for Caregivers: Building a Sustainable Society,” at the Lifelong Learning Institute, Paya Lebar.
The symposium brought together about 100 attendees to ponder over and discuss the challenges and ethical issues of how technology can be used in a more human-centred way to support caregiving in Singapore’s ageing society. The GOH Mr Kiren Kumar, Deputy Chief Executive (Development, IMDA) shared about the policies, the three pillars (High Touch, High Trust, and High Tech) of a successful tech rollout, and our government’s efforts over the last 8-10 years to build Singapore into a SMART NATION.
One of the key highlights was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SCCL and Society for Gerontechnology. This collaboration aims to harness the strengths of both organisations in contributing towards societal awareness of the empowering effects of technology in increasing caregiving capability.
The symposium featured three expert presentations on the role of technology and artificial intelligence in caregiving and senior care.
A/P Dr Kelvin Tan from the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) delivered a keynote presentation on “Human-AI Social Robots in Senior Care.” He shared how social robots and AI can support seniors, while highlighting the importance of keeping technology human-centred and responsive to the needs of older adults.
Ms Genevieve Lee from Huawei International, presented on “Leveraging AI for better healthcare.” She shared how AI and digital technologies can strengthen healthcare services, improve efficiency, and support better outcomes for seniors and caregivers.

Mr Julian Koo, Co-founder of CareSense.ai, spoke on “How can AI help the caregiving journey?” His presentation focused on how AI can assist caregivers by providing practical support, improving care coordination, and helping caregivers manage their responsibilities more effectively.
Together, the three speakers provided valuable insights on how technology can be used meaningfully to support caregiving, enhance senior care, and build a more sustainable care ecosystem. Participants gained practical insights into how technology can enhance caregiving, promote independence, improve quality of life, and support more sustainable care systems.
The panel discussion featured Ms Karen Wee, Executive Director of Lions Befrienders Service Association; Ms Pratiti Kaji, Rehabilitation Manager at Lions Home For The Elders; and Ms Monica Cheang, a family caregiver. Ms Louise Phua, who is a Corporate trainer as well as Management Committee member of SCCL, was the moderator.
Ms Karen Wee shared her experience in leading eldercare transformation through preventive care, digitalisation, and gerontechnology.
Ms Pratiti Kaji shared her perspective as a physiotherapist, focusing on the physical, emotional, and social well-being of elderly residents in long-term care.
Ms Monica Cheang shared her personal journey as a family caregiver to her parents in their 80s, bringing a heartfelt and real-life caregiving perspective to the discussion.
Together, the panellists provided meaningful insights on caregiving, eldercare, and the role of technology in supporting seniors and caregivers. A short Q & A session concluded the programme.
Booths by SoundEye Technology Ltd, Huawei International, and Acre and Root were set up outside the lecture theatre, giving participants the opportunity to explore caregiving-related technologies and solutions.
The event provided a meaningful platform for learning, dialogue, and collaboration across sectors. SCCL extends its appreciation to the GOH, all speakers, partners, booth exhibitors, participants, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the symposium.
